Day 18
A “short” 13 hour day.
Having been told yesterday that I need to wear hairspray to properly slick back my hair, I brought a can with me to work. I opened up my bag in the staff changing room only to discover that the cap had fallen off and the entire bottle had sprayed into the bottom of my bag!
Today we got two new interns and then one got kicked out within about 5 hours for being too slow and the other announced that he only works 10am to 6pm which got a big judgemental group eye roll from the prep kitchen, followed by lots of whispering. We also lost the really nice head of production to Sweden and on Saturday we lose the lovely pastry intern.
Tomorrow I am determined to work smarter and faster – step up my game.
I ended up serving staff meal again tonight which is so lovely and relaxing. I got to chat to two American girls. one waitress and one from the office, one from Texas and one from San Francisco. It was so wonderful to chat to them about what it’s like be a stranger in a strange land (although they both have Mexican parents and speak perfect Spanish, so it’s a bit different for me). We chatted about the differences between the two cultures – they highlighted Mexico’s general conservative way and they dreamed of finding a book / slam poetry clubs. I felt for a second like I was out with friends – like normal life. What a wonderful moment.
I came home and washed my uniform in the wash basin (a ridged sink), crawled into bed and wrote this blog.
Bed time already.
Night night.
